Munich Differently

Insider tips by the Hotel Laimer Hof

Want to experience Munich aside from the popular tourist destinations? Want to go where the locals hang out? We have compiled some insider tips for you for your next visit to the world city with a heart.

Watch FC Bayern FC

Soccer fans will be in the seventh heaven! Not all training of the Bavaria Kickers is open to the public, but in many training schedules, soccer fans can watch their Bayern FC stars during training for free. At Sabener Street, onlookers can watch the training, and, with a little luck, may even obtain some or other soccer hero’s autograph.

Please note, however, that training times are subject to change at short notice. Before you go to watch the training of Bayern FC, be sure to check out the current training plan that you can access online here. Of course, cost-free WLAN-access is available for you in Laimer Hof Hotel.

A different way of sightseeing – via streetcar route 19

Munich is well known for its innumerable tourist attractions – but to explore them all on foot will result in aching feet. How nice that there is a streetcar route like number 19 in Munich!

This route passes through the suburb of Pasing, and includes the most beautiful sights in town. Just get off at the Palace of Justice, on Lenbachplatz, at the Residenz, or at Marienplatz, look around at your leisure, and then take the next streetcar again.

It all works out wonderfully simple and cheap, because with an MVG day ticket you can use all local public transport in Munich all day long – no aching feet!

Good beer and trend boutiques at Wiener Platz

Want to buy Munich design but unable to shop at Marienplatz or Kaufinger Street? Make a shopping trip to the Wiener Platz.

In Haidhausen you will find the Vienna market, one of the four permanent markets in Munich, as well as the huge Hofbräu cellars’ beer garden.

In the numerous boutiques and trendy shops, shoppers find a large selection of individual fashion items and chic accessories.

Get up high on the Olympia Tower

The Olympia Tower at the Munich Olympic Stadium not only offers a great view of the entire city – the tallest tower in the Bavarian capital also is home to the Rock Museum in Munich. Here music fans can admire autographed guitars from rock giants like the Rolling Stones or Kiss and the clothes of rock stars – music history up close!

And while you’re at the Olympic Tower, have something to eat and a cool pint at the highest beer garden in Munich: The Olympia Alm is situated at 564 meters above sea level and together with magnificent views offers typical Bavarian delicacies and specialties in all seasons. Here, events such as the Dance into May or some or other Oktoberfest Party will take place. The elevated position offers good acoustics: From the Olympic Mountain you can listen to the concerts of world stars in the Olympic Stadium – free of charge.

Going swimming – in style!

In the oldest indoor swimming pool in the city, the people of Munich bathe in style: The Müller’schen Volksbad, a public swimming bath, built in Art Nouveau style, was opened in 1901, and was faithfully preserved. Here you can enjoy great swimming and a sauna.

The locals keep this swimming pool a tight secret. It also offers aqua fitness classes and rhythmic water gymnastics. The Müller’sche Volksbad is open from 7:30 AM to 11:00 PM every day.

Ticket prices and special dates can be found on the website of the indoor pool.
